Monitoring activities under the project "Roma Women NGOs - active participants in civil society - Dupnitsa
A seminar entitled "Sexually transmitted diseases, contraception, abortion risks, and hormonal therapy" was held on 11th and 12th of March 2006. 23 Roma women and girls took part in the event and it was visible that they had started to overcome their embarrassment and eagerly discussed the issues and asked questions. The seminar involved group work and team role play exercises which improved the communication among the participants and built up a pleasant and friendly working atmosphere.
The concluding seminar took place on 1st and 2nd April 2006 and focused on the topic of pregnancy. The issues covered referred to pregnancy risks and complications, labour pain and how to overcome it, some doubts and questions of mothers-to-be, breastfeeding, pregnancy weight control, after-birth recovery, etc. All these issues proved to be particularly interesting for young girls who have not had children yet, and for the pregnant women. The lecturer and trainer, who is an experienced obstetrician, answered all questions extensively and involved a lot of examples from her work practice.
The role play exercises carried out in the open evoked enthusiasm and everybody had good fun!
Follow-up meetings and talks with the participants in the three seminars are still to come. These will cover any questions the Roma women and girls may have.
The topics of each meeting will be determined in advance according to the participants' needs and interest. The project will close with a final meeting which will involve representatives of institutions and media working on Roma women's issues.

Being a coordinator for Stability Pact "Roma Women Can Do It" /RWCDI/ project, Kalinka Slivkova told the seminar participants about the Regional Meeting that took place in Bankya and was attended by Roma women from 10 countries. She also informed them about the future RWCDI National campaign. This is encouraging for the women of Dupnitsa, as it fosters confidence, responsibility and the knowledge of their own rights and need for unification. The women start to be aware that the solution of their problems depends on themselves. The seminar participants feel that they have become part of an international network of Roma NGOs which are operating actively to promote the role and place of Roma women in public and political life.
